Streaky Bay, 3rd May, 2023

To start off with, we had a rough windy night last night which made the van rock all night but when we woke up this morning it was a beautiful calm sunny day.  So today we decided to get a rental car and go out around the coast scenic loop roads. As we can’t take the Motorhome off the sealed roads more than six kilometres this was the only way to do it. This is the one disadvantage re Motorhomes you can miss out on a lot of good places to see. We had a great sunny day so off we went to do the cliff/beach roads.

Our first stop was walking down these steps to Yanerble Bay.

A beautiful very long Sandy beach looking up the beach. And below looking the other way. Perfect  for the surfers. Safe dimming.

These are the roads we had to travel on today, so you can see why we couldn’t take the motorhome. We would have travelled about 150kms. in our little rental car. Poor PT it has been a lot of hard bumpy driving. Lots of 💤 tonight.

Continuing on we have now arrive at Speed Point. Before going out to the point we walked around this little sheltered bay. You can see the big waves coming in from the outside waters.

Above and below we walked over the top of the point to look over to the open sea. All this area was spectacular.

Massive surf  just off the coast.

This is our little car that had to come up and over this steep hill but she made it OK

Another stretch of the type of roads we were crossing most of the day. We picked our car up at 10.00am and dropped it off at 4.00pm.

We saw these Sandhills with all the build up of sand from the wild westerly winds that blow in.

This area  is called Smooth Pools as the water comes over the rocks to make calm swimming pools.

This is our little car for the day.

Point Westall. The furthest point on the Loop Road that we are driving on which is called  Westall Way Loop Drive,

Passing by what they call the High Cliffs looking along the coast.  not that high like we have seen over the plains.

Tractor beach don’t know where it gets it name from.

This is called Back beach. The above photo looks like I am down on beach level but I am standing on the edge of a cliff looking down to the water.

Back beach looking down the beach further.

Going down to the whistling rocks and blow holes along this 360m boardwalk and steps leading to viewing platforms.

The area all churned up where these massive rollers come in and crash on the rocks hence producing a very noisy blowhole.

Looking down over the Blowhole’s. Above the large waves come in and smash up over rocks to the base of the cliff.

Then here you can see when the wave goes out there is a large rock shelf under the foam area making the waves to crash down on as they hit this shelf, forcing the water to go up through a hole in the rock which gave out a very loud noise. This made us a little wet.

Along a bit in the same area the power of the waves coming in crashing on and around this large rock. It was all quite spectacular.

Now for the return walk up the track and steps back to the top of the cliff.

We have now been travelling around the Cape Bauer Loop Drive and have arrived at the point of Cape Bauer. Again very spectacular.

Looking over the edge down to the huge sea pounding over the rocks.

Another view looking over. A long way down.

Still out at Cape Beuer looking along the coast.

Well that’s the end of our big day exploring around the cliff tops and beaches out on the coast of Streaky Bay.  The township of StreakyBay is tucked into a nice calm bay inside all of the open waters we have been seeing today,  It’s been a fun day all up exploring the coastal areas. As we are having three nights here we will walk around the town area today. What we have seen so far it’s a very pretty well laid out town.
