Lake Talbot, Narrandera NSW, — Canberra ACT 19th May, 2023

Woke up to 0 deg at 6.00am. On the road by 7.50am heading for Canberra ACT making this the fifth state we have been in. WA, SA, VIC, NSW and now in ACT then we will be going back into  NSW. We will have three nights in Canberra which we are both looking forward to. We were travelling for four and a half hours today with three stops taking photos of Water Tank Art and fourth stop was to make a coffee. Had two more art water tank stops but one was 7kms off the main highway which was too far out of our way as by now we just wanted to get to Canberra. Note no more Silos now Water Tanks,  not in Silo territory any more. The Silos are way more impressive than the Water Tanks. We have another around here but can’t find it yet. Could be another coming up south of Sydney.

At 6.00am it was clear outside but by the time we got on the road the fog had come down. In this photo it had cleared a lot, much thicker to start with.

Above and below these two small water tanks (which the painting went right round each tank) stood on opposite sides of the Highway north of Wagga Wagga. An area called Collingullie.

This one was  Williams Hill Water Tank up behind Wagga Wagga

This Water Tank was just past Wagga Wagga in the RAAF Museum area at the airport. We didn’t go in just stopped for the photo.

This was round the back of the above.

They also had a display of A few old RAAF aeroplanes but just took this one a F-111. It had a long life in which serviced Australia from 1st June 1973 until the withdrawal of service in December 2010. It looked so big standing next to it.

Stopped here round the back of the town Gundagai to stand outside in the sun to keep warm after our 0deg start this morning. We had planed to stay a night here but then  we decided we would have a bigger driving day to give us an extra night in Canberra. Three nights all together to give us two whole days exploring Canberra.

Shortly after we left Wagga Wagga ( a lot of Wagga Wagga’s in this story) the highway turned into a four lane highway as above with very wide medians. Sometimes the other side disappeared altogether. This road just kept on going until we turned off for Canberra but it seemed to go all the way to Sydney and beyond there too. Made driving so much easier without the on coming traffic. That’s a long highway.

Today we were well out of the long flat plains that went on forever. Instead we have been driving over hilly country with sheep and cattle farms. No more wheat!!

Our park for three nights called just Canberra Park. A newish park all concrete and grass and only an odd tree and very upmarket facilities. Very flash and great big modern washing machines and dryers. They tell us it’s going to be 1deg tomorrow morning and Sunday but 2deg Monday only reaching 13deg during the day. But we will be busy walking all round Canberra so we wont feel it. Our van left of the little tree.

Looking down the road behind us. That’s us first right. Everything is all neat and tidy. I think we are really going to enjoy it here. Still very busy for this time of year. We don’t see many tourist mainly Aussies travelling around. Note we have a drive site which makes it easier when we are coming and going during the day.

Tonight’s sunset across camp.
