Woke up to a cold morning as no sun out, full cloud cover keeping the warmth out. By mid morning the clouds stated to dispersed, warming us up. Very quiet day today. Wandered around the town this morning, taking photos of the old buildings. By all the dates we saw on these buildings we presumed the town would have been built in the 1890’s. We have been very impressed with the neatness of all these small towns. Councils seem to take a lot of pride in them. Everything is well manicured, lawns always trim and tidy, recreational areas well done and everything in general. Always council workers out doing jobs cleaning the streets etc. But I suppose these small towns with such big distances between them all have their own council to look after what needs doing. Very impressed with them all a pleasure to drive through or stay. Came back to camp made our lunch then we went for a walk from our camp beside the lake.
Last nights Sunset
Above and below is the huge swimming complex next to the camp. It must be a real buzz in the summer.
Lake Talbot is a man made lake which is quite some size. Just showing the lock system at a narrow outlet where they can control the water levels.
Now some more art work again on water towers not silos just so clever.
Took this one closer just to see the detail better. When we took the kids to Oz, Jen would say, every time she saw a Koala in person, a brochure or a book, ahhhhhh. She was then nine and loved Kolas. That word was used by all of us during our whole holiday. Often all repeating it at the same time.
I found this interesting.
Now for a walk around town looking for some interesting and old buildings.
This caught my eye, very pretty.
One of the many pubs in town. I wonder if people still stay in these places. The rooms walls would be paper thin.
One of many very old homes along this very pretty street.
This Pub looks so fragile. I wouldn’t be staying in those upstairs rooms. You would probably go through the balcony,
1891
Narrandera Council Chamber building. Very pretty framed by the trees.
The Hankinson Fountain.
The ceramic fountain was made by Royal Doulton which was presented to the people of Narrandera in 1922 in honour of all those in Narrandera and district who served in the Great War 1914 — 1918. Imagine how much that would have cost in its day. It was given by a couple Mr and Mrs Hankinson.
Showing the town square which also had two other memorials down the other end for those that went to the two great wars. Pretty area.
Original “Grand Stand” at the town cricket oval. We estimated it catered for approximately 80 spectators.
And another Pub. And there were more in town. This one was named Murrumbidgee after the river we have now been following through these towns. Built In 1910. One of the latest to be built.
After lunch we walked along a track through the long grass along the edge of the man made Lake. Didn’t see any snakes. We were told there wouldn’t be , they are well gone now the weather has turned cold at night and early morning until the sun warms it up. I did notice that PT made sure that I walked in front of him in this very narrow track.
The sun has gone right down but still reflecting on the water. And it’s nearly getting dark.
As you can see a very nothing sort of day but very relaxing. So I have tried to put together something on our day.
Off to Canberra early tomorrow. Over 300kms so we are hoping to get there before mid-day. We will be having three nights there to see the sights. Looks a very interesting city. Modern and very well laid out. We are both looking forward to this. Not these delicate old buildings like today.
Tonight’s sunset.
